It has been 1½ years since we moved into our house in Bosque Verde and we are loving it.
Julio & Barbara Batista purchased these 280 mountainous acres overlooking Nosara and miles of Pacific ocean coastline some 13 years ago. There were no roads so we rode by horseback and hiked as they shared their dream of creating a residential reserve in harmony with nature. They immediately started reforesting, planting thousands of trees where the cattle had been grazing; all the while working extensively with MINAE, the Costa Rica Environmental Ministry. They carved out beautiful roads, brought in electricity, a great water system, even fire hydrants; and best of all they created 75 amazing homesites, all designed to maximize views and privacy.
Before selling their first lot Julio & Barbara insisted the project not just be a vision but a reality. After many years they were finally ready. We purchased our 2.5 acre piece of paradise not long after, and started construction in 2008. It was one of the best decisions we ever made.
There are now 4 luxury homes completed. Several lots have been sold and more homes are on the drawing board.

I walked into the living room one morning and a
motmot just like this one was sitting on the back of the sofa. He was completely at ease and slowly just lifted up and glided out the doors. They are larger than I had thought, about a foot high from the top of his tail to his head.

I live in a beautiful place ... Bosque Verde, Nosara on the the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica,
So now, Dear Family and Friends,
I am finally updating our "new home" photos. As you will see things have grown a lot in the last year and a half, it is amazing, we even had fresh oranges off a 2' high tree just months after it was planted!
The rains started early this year. As you know "green season" is our favorite time of year, the jungle just turns lush and green overnight and the monkeys are howling in pleasure with the return of their favorite leaves. They have spent the last several nights in the trees just out the front door....after almost 15 years of living in Nosara I still get a kick out of that alarm clock in the wee hours of the morning! They have been a complete delight to us. I can watch them from here at my desk out my office window or in the evenings while watching TV we can look to the left to the jungle and ocean or to the right to more jungle, mountains and the monkeys.
One afternoon while upstairs taking a bath and watching a troop of Howlers travel through the treetops one lagged behind and began doing what looked like sit ups and other strange movements. I couldn't figure out what was going on until all of a sudden I saw a bit of red....she was having a baby! I grabbed a towel (for me, not the monkey), ran downstairs and called friend & BV neighbor Bobbi who jumped in the car and was here a few minutes later to watch with me. Mama monkey never seemed stressed or in pain, she just made a soft cooing sound. She had a beautiful little white baby that she cuddled up with for the night.
We also have a troop of Capuchins, (white faced monkeys) that race through here occasionally. This is a rare privilege because they are not usually seen in Nosara. They are really feisty little devils, completely different than the Howlers. I've shot thousands of monkey photos, if you would like to see a few please visit my "Monkey page"
